Fire Trucks on Acland Street

Something has happened on #AclandStreet just now.  Three #fireTrucks have arrived and blocked off the street. Not sure what has happened but hopefully nothing too serious!

Rainy Days and Mondays

From such a beautiful red #sunset last night to a grey and rainy #Monday today.  That's #Melbourne for you! Karen Carpenter sang about "Rainy Days and Mondays" always getting her down, but don't let the weather get YOU down. Have a good week, everybody!

No Cuts. No Butts. The Message is Clear.

Despite the minor #vandalism to this #sign on #StKilda Foreshore, the message is still clear that glass (such as #bottles and #glasses, etc.) are not permitted on St Kilda #beach. This is a great rule that just makes our beaches much safer for everyone. There's nothing worse than walking on the sand and cutting your foot on a broken bottle!

#Smoking is also not allowed which would make the beaches a more enjoyable experience for many people too! It also means no cigarette butts littering the ground and the sand, and then they won't make their way into the water to pollute our beautiful Port Phillip Bay.

Let's take care of our beaches, folks!

A Sunny Hump Day in #StKilda

St Kilda comes alive in #Summer! And it looks like Summer is definitely approaching with these gloriously sunny and warm afternoons this week. What a sunny hump day it is today!

Daylight savings makes it easy to get outside for a walk or a jog after work since the sun is still out until at least 7:30pm. Enjoy the rest of your day, St Kilda!

St Kilda 4G Coverage (Vodafone)

#MobilePhone service and coverage in #StKilda has always been pretty good, except during major #Events like the #StKildaFestival when voice and data access is always VERY limited. This is probably due to the number of people in the area at the one time. But it's great to know that the major phone companies like #Vodafone are doing their best to keep us connected. Let's hope their 4G network and service is as good as their advertising!

Flooding on Alma Road

Due to last night's heavy #Rain, some of the local streets experienced some minor #flooding today.

This is #AlmaPark West on #AlmaRoad in #EastStKilda. The flooding was severe enough to affect parking along the street. Not quite sure what this old guy was up to, but perhaps he was trying to unblock one of the drains. You got to love the locals trying to help the neighbourhood!  Thank you, Sir!!

33°C at 5pm!

What a gloriously warm day today. St Kilda comes alive on warm and sunny days, and this is a sign that Summer is not too far away. How exciting!

There are plenty of great parks and gardens in the Port Phillip area. The St Kilda Botanical Gardens are always a beautiful place to chill out away from the beach crowds. Have a great day, folks! (Don't forget the sunscreen!)

New Paintjob for Public Toilets at Coles Carpark, Balaclava

We ALL have experienced those moments when we are busting and just need to find a loo! Sometimes the public facilities are a little scary.

These public toilets situated in the Coles Carpark in Balaclava / East St Kilda have recently had a facelift.  They were looking pretty dismal a little while ago, and weren't very clean or pleasant smelling.

The outside received a new colourful paint job which is much better than the ugly dirty yellow that it was before, which made it look like a shipping container!  The inside has been cleaned up too.

When you have to go, you HAVE to go!!

Painting the Pedestrian Crossing on Carlisle St

They are currently painting the Pedestrian Crossing on Carlisle St, Balaclava/East St Kilda a bright new yellow!

This means that there are some traffic delays in both directions so take care while driving along that strip tonight.  Hopefully it won't take them too long to complete.  Having this pedestrian crossing brightly visible will no doubt make this crossing more safe for everyone.

New Planter Boxes on Carlisle Street

It looks like Carlisle Street in Balaclava/East St Kilda is being given a little bit a of a facelift with these new planter boxes.  It's a great idea to help make this strip more interesting and beautiful, and these have great potential, but maybe the choice of plants lets the whole idea down? Unfortunately these ones look like weeds.

A great photo by Photographer Michael Blamey

Saw this fantastic photo of a windy day in St Kilda and I wanted to share with you all.

It's by a local photographer named Michael Blamey.  I found his photo blog, "St Kilda Today", by chance while doing a Google search on all things St Kilda.  I loved it so much that left a comment for Michael commending him on his work. I hope he liked the comment and didn't think it was by some weirdo! :)

This photo is superb. Great work!

I have called St Kilda home for over 20 years and one reason why I love it is because from day to day there is always something new and different to see. Even something that you may walk past every single day (like the beach) can reveal a slightly different personality from the day before. This is what keeps this suburb exciting and interesting.

I am also a big fan of photography and I love seeing other people’s perspective of St Kilda. This photo of West St Kilda Beach is fascinating because at first glance, you wouldn’t think that this was St Kilda at all.

The wind that day has definitely transformed this stretch of sand and the way that you have captured it gives it a certain beauty. I know how fervent those afternoon breezes can get, and when you’re caught in it near the beach and your face is getting sand blasted, the first thing you want to do is get out of it, thus missing a possible unique sight such as this!

I just wanted to thank and commend you on the way you capture St Kilda. Love you work!
